Two converted tries in the final five minutes gave FDMC a memorable 17-15 win over NPBHS in the 1st XV curtain-raiser on Wednesday 25 June. FDMC looked dead and buried with NPBHS 15-3 with time ticking away at Yarrow Stadium. But then FDMC swarmed on to attack and replacement midfielder Cameron Walsh scored under the posts after a forward drive at the line. With another replacement, Paul Williams, kicking the conversion, FDMC was in with a sniff of victory.

From the kick-off, FDMC banged the ball high and the NPBHS defence let the ball bounce just inside its own half. The ball popped up nicely for FDMC winger Riley McGregor, another replacement player, and only a desperate tackle stopped him short of the line. McGregor rolled the ball back, with half-back Daniel Bolstad scooping up the ball to dive over for the try to level the score. Paul Williams curled the conversion between the posts to give FDMC the win!
