FDMC Cricket

The 2002 – 2003 season was an exciting one for the 1st XI Cricketers. Playing in the Taranaki Senior Grade Competition it was only ‘rained out games' that prevented the team from holding a place in the One Day Final. The 2 day series saw some impressive outright wins which earned them a spot in the final against Stratford. Batting first, the team scored 109, a total below par, but with some fine bowling and great catching, Stratford were dismissed for 107 giving the team a first innings lead. A more relaxed 2nd innings of a massive 328 /9 proved too much for Stratford who conceded the game. Result: FDMC won by first innings lead.

The Secondary Schools Gillette Cup competition has also finished with the team scoring 3 big wins in lead up games to the Taranaki final with New Plymouth Boys High School. In a pressure cooker game, NPBHS were dismissed for 180. Chasing 181 to win, the balance see-sawed all afternoon with wickets falling, then partnerships developing, a real dog fight developed but to the huge disappointment of the boys, they fell 12 runs short. It was an action packed game between two very even teams.

The Yr 7 & 8 Milo Cup Cricket Team have won their way through to the Southern North Island semi-finals of the National Milo Cup Knock-Out Competition. They beat Highlands Intermediate to become the Taranaki Primary Schools Champions and then won against Roslyn Primary (Palmerston North) to advance into the last 16 teams in New Zealand. The stand out performer for both games was Captain Ethan Bolstad 72 not out against Highlands and a brilliant 100 retired against Roslyn. Other notable performances were against Highlands – Steven Warner 22, Thomas Landrigan 3-28, Andrew Crowe 2-11, Morgan Hall 2-13. Against Roslyn, Nick Henderson 34, Thomas Landrigan 23, Callan Coulton 21 and Sean Markham 4-13.
