The first week of the October holidays every year sees the traditional Camp La Salle being held at one of our three Lasallian schools. This year we travelled to De La Salle, Mangere where we enjoyed three days with our brothers from JPC and DLS. Tim Balo wrote an account of these wonderful days of brotherhood.

Camp LaSalle by Tim Balo (Year 7) On 29 September - 3 October we went to the LaSalle camp in Auckland. There we met people from other Lasallian schools, went to Rainbow’s End and the Auckland War Memorial Museum, climbed Mt Eden and chilled out at the Otahuhu pools. At Rainbow’s End, we all enjoyed the exiting rides and attractions, including: The Gold Rush, Log Flume, Stratosfear, Invader, Corkscrew Roller Coaster, Bumper Boats, Scorpion Karts etc. My favourite rides were the Bumper Karts, Gold Rush, Log Flume and Future-Tainment. Future-Tainment has the Rainbow Playlab with Hologate Virtual Reality games, where you can play with your friends in different worlds. At the Auckland Museum, we admired all the interesting exhibitions, especially the War Memorial gallery at Level 2, where two impressive WWII planes - Zero and Spitfire – were displayed. Although that particular Spitfire plane, built in late 1945, did not fly in the war, many New Zealanders piloted Spitfires during WWII. The plane has two canons, two machine guns and a compartment under the wings to carry drop tanks and bombs. Zero is a Japanese plane. It was intended to be flown on a kamikaze mission, but the technical problems prevented it from fulfilling its mission. The plane was damaged and rebuilt during the last few months of WWII, which ended before it could crash into the target. We all had a great time and are very grateful to our teachers and school for this trip
