When I was 15 years old, I went to FDMC for a one-month short-term study abroad program from Japan to study and learn about the culture. Although I was initially nervous about traveling overseas for the first time, it turned out to be an incredible experience, allowing me to immerse myself in the wonderful culture of New Zealand. At school, I quickly made many friends.
On my first day, I joined the rugby club's practice session and bonded with my classmates right away. While improving my English skills, I enjoyed various activities such as creating sculptures during art classes and competing in swimming events. After school, I spent time with friends in the dormitory, playing billiards and rugby. Through these daily interactions, I naturally picked up English in a fun and engaging way.
On weekends, I stayed with a host family connected to a student at FDMC. I explored New Zealand's breathtaking nature by climbing Mt. Taranaki, riding mountain bikes, and swimming in rivers with the host family's children. I also shared enjoyable moments with the family, such as making sushi together for dinner. My time with them was so delightful that I eagerly anticipated every weekend.
On the final day at FDMC, my rugby teammates gave me a send-off with the Haka, which became an unforgettable memory for me. Thanks to the warm hospitality of the principal, teachers, rugby coach, and host family, I felt truly welcomed despite being a foreigner from Japan. I am deeply grateful for these wonderful experiences and connections, and I hope to return to FDMC again someday.
